Why become a trustee in bankruptcy?

November 4th, 2011

People tell me: “You’re a chartered accountant (CA), you could do anything, take any job you want!! Or, as my mother used to tell me, you should have continued your medical degree, you’d be a doctor by now?!! Or, you were a CEO of a national organization, why help people with financial difficulties? ”

Well,this is what I tell them:

  1. I love what I do;
  2. It’s not a job, it’s a vocation;
  3. The reward for me is knowing that I helped someone become empowered and may now lead a better life.

People also tell me: “…but don’t you feel depressed at the end of each day,dealing with people that may feel tired, depressed and negative about life?”

What I say is: No, not at all. When people first come see me, yes they might feel down but once they were able to talk about their problems, they feel relieved. Not only do they feel relieved but they leave our meeting with a smile on their face, a soul full of new hope and a head full of solutions to their problems.

Remember:

Every problem has a solution;

sometimes all you need is a helping hand.
